SHORT TAKES ON THE DRIFTING WRECKAGE – OVERNIGHT: 

WE FEEL THEIR PAIN, DON'T WE? – FROM BREITBART:  Since announcing that he is a homosexual, Carl Nassib, NFL defensive end with the Las Vegas Raiders, has received praise from President Joe Biden and the establishment media.  However, when rumors started to fly that Nassib is a Republican — and could have been a supporter of former President Donald Trump — his newly minted hero status hit a snag.  To Carl Nassib and Kumi Yokoyama – two prominent, inspiring athletes who came out this week: I’m so proud of your courage. Because of you, countless kids around the world are seeing themselves in a new light today.

However, after reports that Nassib might be a Republican began to surface, it didn’t take leftists long to let their true colors show.  Most were obvious with their bias:  I’m proud of and support Carl Nassib for coming out….unless he’s a Trump supporter then that is just problematic.

Nassib was registered to vote as a Republican in two states as recently as 2019, according to reports. How truly Soviet the leftists have become.  You must be perfect in every way to stay in their ranks.  One deviation from the ideology sends you to the Gulag.  Look, a movement has to have standards, and no one can expect to live forever.

ANOTHER NICE, WARM LEFTIST – FROM BREITBART:   Tracy Stone-Manning, President Joe Biden’s nominee to be director of the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), described American children as an “environmental hazard” while advocating for slowing U.S. population growth in her 1992 graduate thesis.
The Daily Caller reported on Stone-Manning’s thesis, titled “Into the Heart of the Beast| A case for environmental advertising,” after which she was awarded a master of science degree in environmental studies. Her thesis, however, amounted to public policy recommendations for the University of Montana described as “environmental education.”  Stone-Manning called for an advertising campaign to lessen procreation among Americans, ostensibly towards “environmental” ends. She produced a sample poster deriding a shirtless child as an “environmental hazard.”   The nut parade continues, but the damage from people like this can be serious.  Sometimes their policies take years to dislodge.

GIVING IN GRADUALLY – OVERNIGHT:   The chokehold of China gets stronger and stronger, and we seem to have little will to fight back.  When big companies with famous names have no problem identifying themselves with one of the most repressive dictatorships on Earth, we are in trouble.  From Fox Business: 

Nike CEO John Donahoe called the sportswear apparel giant a "brand of China" this week, following a fiasco it was involved in earlier this year over concerns about human rights abuses committed by the communist government.

During an earnings call this week, Donahoe explained that Nike had a long-term view of its operations in China, where it had been operating for about four decades.

"We are the largest sport brand there, and we are a brand of China and for China," Donahoe said. "And the biggest asset we have in China is the consumer equity. Consumers feel a strong, deep connection to the NIKE, Jordan and Converse brands in China. And it’s real."

Donahoe went on to say that the company intended to keep investing in its China operations as it reported better than expected revenues in its fiscal fourth quarter. Its sales in China missed Wall Street expectations.

Shares of Nike hit an all-time high during Friday's trading session, driven by its strong financial results.

Nike recently came under fire in China for a comment it made raising concerns about forced labor practices in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (XUAR). It reassured customers that it does not source textiles or products from the region, like cotton.

After the U.S. and other Western countries responded to the forced labor allegations with sanctions, its statement was resurfaced and resulted in calls among Chinese consumers to boycott the brand – as well as others like H&M.

The Chinese government has characterized companies' decisions to avoid using cotton sourced from the region as an effort to undermine its economy.

U.S. companies are increasingly coming under scrutiny over their operations in China, where critics wonder how far they have to bend their practices in order to satisfy the communist government.

COMMENT:  They will bend unless they are forced by American consumers and the American government not to bend. 

We've been here before.  There were plenty of companies doing business with Nazi Germany right before World War II, and of course, as we've noted here earlier, we sold scrap iron to Japan right before Pearl Harbor, and it came back to us in the form of bullets. 

My great concern right now is that China sees us as weak, especially when it looks at our border policies.  The Chinese government may get the impression that this would be a good time to try to take Taiwan, and we would then face the greatest military challenge of our time.  But no one seems interested.

SHORT TAKES ON THE DRIFTING WRECKAGE – OVERNIGHT: 

OFF WE GO, INTO THE CORRECT BLUE YONDER – FROM THE NEW YORK POST:  A Federal Aviation Administration advisory group is urging the agency to replace words like “airman” and “cockpit” with gender-neutral terms like “aviator” and “flight deck.”  The FAA’s Drone Advisory Committee put forth the recommendations in a report released Wednesday, part of a broader push for equity in the agency and aviation industry.  “Research shows that the utilization of general-neutral language can lead to a more inclusive environment that draws more people to the industry and helps keep them there,” the report states.
The committee offered several alternatives for terms commonly-used in the industry, such as using “manufactured” or “fabricated” instead of “man-made.”  It also noted that the term “cockpit” has at times been used by male crew members to “undermine femme co-workers” — and proposed that “flight deck” be used instead.  The report indicated that gender-neutral words would lead to a more inclusive industry as a whole.  I certainly will feel safer in the air knowing these changes are in the works. 

CALIFORNIA DREAMIN' – FROM FOX:   California’s effort to recall Gov. Gavin Newsom has succeeded in forcing a new election within 90 days following the validation of more than 1.5 million signatures, according to state officials.  The California Secretary of State’s Office confirmed the move Wednesday evening.  The recall petition garnered over 1.7 million signatures, of which only 43 were withdrawn, leaving the effort well above the 1.5 million threshold.  "A sufficient number of verified recall signatures had previously been reached by recall proponents in April," the Secretary of State’s office announced in a statement. "However, in accordance with California election law, voters were given a 30-day period from April 26 to June 8th to request county officials remove their signatures from recall petitions."
The next phase of the recall process is now in the hands of the state’s Department of Finance, which is tasked with estimating the costs of a special election. The vote must be held within 90 days.  This doesn't mean Newsom will be ousted.  If he wins the special election against an opponent or opponents, he remains in office.

OPTIMISM FOR REPUBLICANS – OVERNIGHT:  New polls, and we always note that polls are temporary indicators, show grounds for optimism for our side as the 2022 campaigns are being planned.  Clearly, the public is unhappy over what it's getting.  From Powerline: 

Earlier this month, the National Republican Senatorial Committee and the Republican Governors’ Association employed OnMessage Inc. to conduct a poll of 26 states where important Senate and gubernatorial races are shaping up in 2022. The poll included 1,200 likely voters, but it is not clear how those voters were distributed among the 26 states. Of the states that were surveyed, ten were classified as red, nine as purple, and seven as blue. The red states included Florida and Ohio, while the only large blue state surveyed was Illinois. Minnesota was among the blue states included in the poll.

Given the distribution of red, purple and blue states, this poll may skew to the right. Nevertheless, even if we discount conservative answers by a few points, the results are striking.

Generic Congressional ballots usually favor Democrats, and if the generic poll is even, it portends an excellent year for Republicans. Here, the GOP is up 43%-37% on the generic ballot, with Republicans leading among Independents by 34%-23%, with 23% undecided.

Voters in these battleground states think the U.S. is on the wrong track by 59% to 34%, a finding that bodes ill for the party in power. Strikingly, Independents think we are on the wrong track by a huge 62%-28% margin.

This poll tested the general images of the parties with voters. It found the Republican party at a net -1, 46% favorable and 47% unfavorable (but +2 with Independents). The Democrats were deeply underwater at a net -13, 41% favorable and 54% unfavorable. Significantly, the Democrats are net -22 with Independents.

There were a number of questions on the Democrats’ money-printing schemes. Happily, most voters don’t seem to be fooled. By 50% to 39%, respondents said that America can’t afford the Biden administration’s proposed increases in federal spending, as opposed to the claim that such spending is necessary. Independents oppose the spending by 51%-35%. And, by 51%-45%, respondents blame the current spike in inflation on Joe Biden. That percentage will grow.

COMMENT:  Read the rest.  The Republicans are building and the Democrats are wrecking.  It must be said that the taking back of the House and Senate in 2022 is a realistic Republican goal.  If it happens, millions of Americans will feel empowered again, and the nation might well be saved from the socialistic drift of the Democratic Party.  It was once the party of Roosevelt, Truman and Kennedy, but none of them would last long in today's version of that party.
